The Swaledale and Arkengarthdale barns and walls Conservation Area covers about 7,048 hectares and was designated by Yorkshire Dales National Park in 1989. Inside the boundary are 132 listed buildings (1 Grade I, 7 Grade II*, 124 Grade II). The most significant is Church of St Andrew, Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 2, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
