The Midhurst Conservation Area covers about 62 hectares and was designated by South Downs National Park in 1974. Inside the boundary are 114 listed buildings (1 Grade I, 2 Grade II*, 111 Grade II). The most significant is The Ruins of Cowdray House, Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
