The Arundel Conservation Area covers about 58 hectares and was designated by South Downs National Park in 1975. Inside the boundary are 197 listed buildings (3 Grade I, 5 Grade II*, 189 Grade II). The most significant is Arundel Castle, Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
