The Southwell Conservation Area covers about 215 hectares and was designated by Newark and Sherwood District Council in 1970. Inside the boundary are 214 listed buildings (2 Grade I, 4 Grade II*, 208 Grade II). The most significant is Bishop's Manor and remains of Bishop's Palace, Grade I.
