The Carnforth Conservation Area covers about 22 hectares and was designated by Lancaster City Council in 2011. Inside the boundary are 12 listed buildings (3 Grade II*, 9 Grade II). The most significant is Carnforth: engine shed and associated facilities including the locomotive turntable, Grade II*. Part of the area lies in flood zone 2, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
