The Ware Conservation Area covers about 62 hectares and was designated by East Hertfordshire District Council in 1981. Inside the boundary are 180 listed buildings (3 Grade I, 14 Grade II*, 163 Grade II). The most significant is Church of St Mary, Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
