The Great Amwell Conservation Area covers about 29 hectares and was designated by East Hertfordshire District Council in 1981. Inside the boundary are 35 listed buildings (1 Grade II*, 34 Grade II). The most significant is Parish Church of St John the Baptist, Grade II*. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
