The Great Hormead Conservation Area covers about 36 hectares and was designated by East Hertfordshire District Council in 1968. Inside the boundary are 43 listed buildings (3 Grade II*, 40 Grade II). The most significant is Church of St Nicholas (church of England), Grade II*. Part of the area lies in flood zone 2, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
