The Durham City Conservation Area covers about 418 hectares and was designated by Durham County Council in 1968. Inside the boundary are 435 listed buildings (43 Grade I, 25 Grade II*, 367 Grade II). The most significant is 12-15, The College, Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 2, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
