The West End Conservation Area covers about 135 hectares and was designated by Darlington Borough Council in 1968. Inside the boundary are 38 listed buildings (2 Grade II*, 36 Grade II). The most significant is 1-8, Harewood Grove, Grade II*. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
