The Haughton-le-Skerne Conservation Area covers about 31 hectares and was designated by Darlington Borough Council in 1968. Inside the boundary are 24 listed buildings (2 Grade I, 22 Grade II). The most significant is Butler House and the Rectory, Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
