The Carlisle City Centre Conservation Area covers about 72 hectares and was designated by Cumberland Council in 1986. Inside the boundary are 154 listed buildings (22 Grade I, 13 Grade II*, 119 Grade II). The most significant is 5 and 6, Greenmarket, Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 2, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
