The Appleby Conservation Area covers about 56 hectares and was designated by Westmorland and Furness Council in 2022. Inside the boundary are 131 listed buildings (6 Grade I, 11 Grade II*, 114 Grade II). The most significant is Caesar's tower at Appleby Castle, Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 2, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
