The West Malling Conservation Area covers about 96 hectares and was designated by Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council in 1971. Inside the boundary are 167 listed buildings (7 Grade I, 11 Grade II*, 149 Grade II). The most significant is Gatehouse and Chapel to St Mary's Abbey, Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
