The Wherwell Conservation Area covers about 46 hectares and was designated by Test Valley Borough Council in 1969. Inside the boundary are 46 listed buildings (1 Grade I, 3 Grade II*, 42 Grade II). The most significant is Stable Block (30 Yards South of Wherwell Priory), Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
