The Manningtree and Mistley Conservation Area covers about 257 hectares and was designated by Tendring District Council in 1969. Inside the boundary are 130 listed buildings (2 Grade I, 128 Grade II). The most significant is Mistley Towers, North West Tower, Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
