The Upper Tean Conservation Area covers about 13 hectares and was designated by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council in 1998. Inside the boundary are 12 listed buildings (2 Grade II*, 10 Grade II). The most significant is New Tean Hall Mill, Grade II*.
