The Mells Conservation Area covers about 32 hectares and was designated by Somerset Council in 1970. Inside the boundary are 54 listed buildings (2 Grade I, 7 Grade II*, 45 Grade II). The most significant is Church of St Andrew, Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
