The Chard Conservation Area covers about 23 hectares and was designated by Somerset Council in 1973. Inside the boundary are 132 listed buildings (2 Grade I, 8 Grade II*, 122 Grade II). The most significant is 7A, 9A, 9, 11, 13 and 13A Fore Street, 1-4 King Charles Mews and water pump, Grade I.
