The City Centre Conservation Area covers about 47 hectares and was designated by Sheffield City Council in 1996. Inside the boundary are 125 listed buildings (2 Grade I, 13 Grade II*, 110 Grade II). The most significant is Cathedral Church of St Peter and St Paul and Attached Wall and Gates, Grade I.
