The Whalley Conservation Area covers about 32 hectares and was designated by Ribble Valley Borough Council in 1972. Inside the boundary are 25 listed buildings (2 Grade I, 1 Grade II*, 22 Grade II). The most significant is Church of St Mary and All Saints, Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 2, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
