The Saltburn-by-the-Sea Conservation Area covers about 155 hectares and was designated by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council in 1976. Inside the boundary are 41 listed buildings (5 Grade II*, 36 Grade II). The most significant is Inclined Tramway (lower Building), Grade II*. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
