The HM Naval Base and St George's Square Conservation Area covers about 35 hectares and was designated by Portsmouth City Council in 1981. Inside the boundary are 48 listed buildings (5 Grade I, 16 Grade II*, 27 Grade II). The most significant is Block Mill and Numbers 35 and 36 Stores (building Number 1/53), Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
