The Cawood Conservation Area covers about 36 hectares and was designated by North Yorkshire Council in 1976. Inside the boundary are 28 listed buildings (3 Grade I, 2 Grade II*, 23 Grade II). The most significant is Banqueting Hall Adjoining East Side of Gatehouse, Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
