The Thornton-le-Dale Conservation Area covers about 59 hectares and was designated by North York Moors National Park in 1977. Inside the boundary are 71 listed buildings (2 Grade II*, 69 Grade II). The most significant is Church of All Saints, Grade II*. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
