The Swainby Conservation Area covers about 38 hectares and was designated by North York Moors National Park in 1977. Inside the boundary are 10 listed buildings (2 Grade I, 1 Grade II*, 7 Grade II). The most significant is Old Church of Holy Rood, Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
