The Barnwell Conservation Area covers about 14 hectares and was designated by North Northamptonshire Council in 1970. Inside the boundary are 24 listed buildings (2 Grade I, 22 Grade II). The most significant is Barnwell Castle, Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
