About the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation Conservation Area
The Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation Conservation Area covers about 506 hectares and was designated by Maldon District Council in 1991. Inside the boundary are 39 listed buildings (1 Grade I, 2 Grade II*, 36 Grade II). The most significant is Beeleigh Abbey and Attached Wall, Grade I. Part of the area lies in flood zone 2, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
