The Whittington Conservation Area covers about 27 hectares and was designated by Lancaster City Council in 1981. Inside the boundary are 24 listed buildings (2 Grade II*, 22 Grade II). The most significant is Church of St Michael, Grade II*. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
