The Linthwaite Conservation Area covers about 79 hectares and was designated by Kirklees Council in 2004. Inside the boundary are 34 listed buildings (5 Grade II*, 29 Grade II). The most significant is Boiler House and Engine House and Rope Race and Water Tower and Powerhouse at Westwood Mills, Grade II*. Part of the area lies in flood zone 3, so an extension may need a flood risk assessment.
